Diablo Sail and Power Squadron is located in the
Northern California, greater San Francisco Bay Area. This
squadron is one of 450+ squadrons of the
United
States Power Squadrons (USPS)®.
Diablo Sail and Power Squadron is one of many squadrons
in District 25, which
includes " ... the environs of Fort Bragg south to Point Sur
on the Pacific Ocean and inland to a northerly line through Merced,
including the area of San Francisco Bay and its tributaries."
Diablo Sail and Power Squadron covers from the San Francisco Bay
into the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta, centered primarily around
Contra Costa, Alameda and Solano counties.
The squadron was formed in 1958. Our membership is
comprised of power boaters and sailors alike. Our members make full
use of the many waterways available to them in San Francisco Bay and
the Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Mokolumne Rivers; as well as the
greater Delta region.
Our principal aim is to,
"Promote boating safety and help YOU be a Safer Boater."
We put special emphasis on boating safety and education for members,
with courses ranging from Seamanship to Celestial Navigation, and
Engine Maintenance to Weather. You can find a full list of
classes on this site, as well as on the USPS
National site.
One of our important civic service activities is
teaching the Basic Boating Course - Americas's
Boating Course - to the general public to promote boating
safety. Another is the Cooperative Charting Program, in which we
report corrections and additions to charts and other publications
of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). NOAA's
charts and tables are widely used by the boating public, and we
cooperate with NOAA in keeping them up to date.
We have membership meetings about every other
month at which we offer boating-related programs, as well as an
opportunity to meet other members. In the boating season,
on-the-water events such as cruises and rendezvous are another part
of our social activity, and many of our general membership meetings
are combined with on-the-water activities. See our Calendar
for more information about scheduled events.
